Today is a beautiful spring day – a little cool, but a day that makes me so thankful that I live where I live. As I sit at my desk on the lower level of our condo (built on the pasture of the farm where I grew up), I keep looking through the patio doors at the pond. Yesterday five eggs hatched, and today the mama and papa goose are showing the goslings all around their pond and natural environment.

For day-old birds, they are amazingly good swimmers: fast, and good at maneuvering. But kids are kids, even though they are goslings. They like to splash each other and play. Both parents stay close to be sure they are safe. When they got tired, they all climbed up on the bank and rested on the grass.
About 30 feet from my patio door, the goslings cuddled under the wings of Mama and Papa. I called Mim over to see them as I tried to get into position with my iPhone to record the moment. Mim said, this reminds me of the old hymn, “Under His Wings.”

Under His wings I am safely abiding;
Though the night deepens and tempests are wild,
Still I can trust Him – I know He will keep me,
He has redeemed me and I am His child.
Refrain:
Under His wings, under His wings,
Who from His love can sever?
Under His wings my soul shall abide,
Safely abide forever.
Under His wings, what a refuge in sorrow!
How the heart yearningly turns to His rest!
Often when earth has no balm for my healing,
There I find comfort, and there I am blessed. (Refrain)
Under His wings, O what precious enjoyment!
There will I hide till life’s trials are o’er;
Sheltered, protected, no evil can harm me,
Resting in Jesus I’m safe evermore. (Refrain)
